Hamilton’s D’Aguilar invited to two NFL camps

Ben D’Aguilar is about to embark on the busiest couple of weeks of his young football career.

After not being selected in the NFL Draft, D’Aguilar was contacted by two teams on Sunday afternoon.  Consequently, the Ontario defensive lineman has been invited to attend two NFL mini rookie training camps in the coming weeks.  First, he will attend the Tampa Bay Buccaneers camp from May 3rd-5th, 2013.  The next weekend, the Ontario gridiron star will stop by the New York Jets camp (May 10th-12th, 2013).

“I was invited this afternoon after getting home from the Mandarin which was pretty funky,” added D’Aguliar of how he received the news of the invites.

The 6’2, 240 defensive lineman from Hamilton, Ontario was recently invited to NFL Super Regional Combine in Dallas, Texas on April 7th, 2013. D’Aguilar received the invite based on testing results he previously posted in an NFL Regional Combine.

In 2012, D’Aguilar completed his fourth season with the McMaster Marauders of the OUA. This past October, he set a CIS record for single season sacks as he amassed 12.5 sacks in eight games. He also registered 28 tackles, 11 tackles for a loss, a forced fumble and a pass break-up. He was the top pass rusher on the Marauders defense. For his exceptional play on the field, D’Aguilar was awarded the J.P. Metras Award as Lineman of the Year. In 2011, he led the Marauders to a Vanier Cup victory. He in ranked fifth on the CFL’s list of the Top 15 Prospects for the league’s 2013 draft, which is set to take place on May 6, 210. Moreover, D’Aguilar will participate in this upcoming weekend’s CFL Combine.

Previous to the Marauders, D’Aguilar spent a season at Fork Union Military Academy. Other teams that he has suited up for include the Hamilton Ironmen and his high school team, the Barton Barons of the Southern Ontario Secondary Schools Association (SOSSA).

Since there is very little time to prepare for both camps, D’Aguilar will continue to do the things that has led him to gridiron success.

“I’ll just do what I have been doing training wise as four days isn’t much time to make leaps and bounds,” explained D’Aguilar.  “I feel I’m ready.”

Ultimately, the Ontario defensive lineman is prepared to represent his home country while facing pressure to preform his best on the field.

“Being a Canadian, I feel I have to prove myself and earn my place,” said D’Aguilar.
