Hawks land fifth #CFC100 recruit

Burnaby linebacker joins OUA team’s 2015 class.

Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks have announced the addition of #CFC100 Noah Usherwood to their football program.

The 6’2, 205 pound linebacker (outside/SAM) from Burnaby, British Columbia will join the Golden Hawks for the 2015 OUA season.

“We are extremely excited to add a player as talented as Noah this late in the recruiting process,” commented Michael Faulds of the newest addition.  “He will be a force on both defense and special teams in the near future for us.”

“His ability to finish through the ball carrier is top level.”

Recently, Usherwood played for US prep school team, Peddie Falcons in Hightstown, New Jersey.  This past season, he was selected as a 1st Team New Jersey All Prep for his performance on the field as he recorded a sack and registered 58 tackles.

Previous to the Falcons, the linebacker enjoyed a successful career with St. Thomas More Knights of the British Columbia High School Football Association (BCHSFA).  In his final season with the Knights, Usherwood registered 109 tackles, 29 tackles for a loss, recorded 11 sacks and caught seven interceptions. In 2013, he was selected as a BCHSFA ‘AAA’ All-Star.

Back in January, Usherwood was ranked in the #CFC100 CLASS 2015 FINAL RANKINGS.

For the Golden Hawks, Usherwood’s commitment is a satisfying outcome after a lengthy amount of time spent courting him.  The team looks forward to his playmaking abilities on defence.

“This has been an 18 month process in the making and we are happy we saw the process through,” commented Golden Hawks Recruiting and Special Teams Coordinator as well as Defensive Backs Coach Dwayne Cameron.  “He is long with excellent speed and explosiveness.”

Ultimately, Usherwood opted for the Golden Hawks because of the ease and comfort he felt during his official visit to the Waterloo, Ontario campus. Moreover, the reputation of the coaching staff, especially Cameron was a decisive factor.

“I chose Laurier because when I visited it gave me a home feeling,” elaborated the #CFC100.  “The atmosphere was very welcoming, especially by the players.”

“I met guys that shared a similar background and similar goals. The huge factor on why I chose Laurier was its coaching staff, especially Coach Cameron. He has gone through a strong resume of great athletes. I want to be the next to come out with a successful career under his coaching. I also like the challenge that he will push for excellence and nothing less.”

With Usherwood’s commitment, the Golden Hawks now have five #CFC100 recruits.  The others include defensive lineman Trevaughan James, receiver Kurleigh Gittens Jr., offensive lineman Drew Mairleitner and running back Osayi Iginuan.
