Hurricanes dominate Bears

This past weekend in the Ontario Football Conference (OFC), the undefeated Junior Hamilton Hurricanes (1-0) paid a visit to the GTA Bears (0-1) and dominated the game from start to finish, as the Hurricanes went on to win the game by a lop-sided score of 51-0.

With a combined offensive total of 393 yards, and a defense that only allowed 35 total yards against, the Hurricanes sealed the victory in a convincing, unified fashion, proving why they are currently the top-ranked OFC team in the entire Canadian Junior Football League (CJFL).

WR #84 Matt Coates, who won the honour of last week’s OFC Offensive Player of the Week, had five catches for 94 yards and one touchdown. WR #80 Andrin Masotti also had five catches for 53 yards and two touchdowns, and SB #82 Cory Raposo had four catches for 103 total yards.

RB #8 Ryan Kotar led the rushing core with 14 carries for 124 yards and one touchdown, and the final touchdown was awarded to DB #3 Jacob Barry who magnificently managed to convert an interception into a touchdown.

At quarterback, the action was well-balanced as #12 Denzel Rocha went 8 for 17 with 105 yards, #6 Kyle Sewell went 5 for 8 with 102 yards, and #17 Alex Hill went 4 for 7 with 76 yards and two touchdown passes.

Kicker/punter #10 Bobby Frame also had a spectacular day, as he combined for 112 yards off of three punts (long 42), 243 yards off of five kick-offs (long 55), and he went 3 for 3 on field goals with a long of 45 yards. Frame also went 5 for 5 on single point conversions, and added another single point, which brought his grand total to 15 points on the day.

Next week, the Hurricanes face-off against their long-time rivals, the Burlington Braves on Saturday August 31 at 8 p.m. at the Mohawk Sports Complex in Hamilton. Check for details on the Hurricanes website: www.the-canes.com and follow them on Twitter @CanesFootball63
