Illinois offers Calgary offensive tackle (VIDEO)

It’s eight and counting for Shane Richards.

Yesterday, the 6’7, 335 pound offensive tackle from Calgary, Alberta received his eighth NCAA offer. It came courtesy of Division 1 Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) team, Illinois Fighting Illini.

“I was excited about the offer as this being my first big 10 school to offer,” expressed Richards of his reaction to the offer.

The other NCAA offers Richards has include Oklahoma State Cowboys, Idaho Vandals, Troy Trojans, Buffalo Bulls, Southern Miss Golden Eagles, Southeastern Louisiana Lions and Akron Zips.

Richards doesn’t anticipate to be spending a lot of time deliberating over his decision of where he will commit to and has an idea of when he will announce his intentions.

“I was planning on Signing Day in February,” offered the offensive tackle.

Although Richards is a native of Jamaica, he moved to Calgary at the age of 12.  Among the teams he has suited up for during his career include Crescent Heights Cowboys of the Calgary Senior High School Athletic Association (CSHSAA) and Calgary Colts.

Most recently, the offensive tackle finished up his career with JUCO team New Mexico Military Institute. Furthermore, Richards has represented his country as a member of Team Canada’s under-19 squad.
