Lancers add CFC 100 pivot Putt (VIDEO)

Windsor, ON – Lancer Football head coach Joe D’Amore is pleased to announce the commitment of one of the most coveted quarterback recruits in Canada, CFC 100 Liam Putt for the 2015 season.

A native of Caledonia, Ontario, Putt played his high school football at Assumption College High School in Brantford where he helped lead his team to a provincial high school championship in 2013.

Also a member of the OFC’s Hamilton Hurricanes, Liam represented Canada at the U19 Football World Championships in Kuwait in 2014 where they finished second to the United States.

Putt is ranked as one of the nation’s top quarterback prospects in the class of 2015.

An experienced quarterback at the international level, Liam also represented Canada earlier this month as a member of Canada’s U19 national team when they competed against Team USA in Arlington, Texas.

Previously, he also played for the Football Canada Cup U18 National Team during last February’s International Bowl in Texas, throwing for two touchdowns in a 53-9 rout of the American team.

At the age of 15, Putt won the 2012 Damon Allen High School Quarterback Challenge named after the famous Canadian Football League star. Putt earned a $10,000 university scholarship to any post-secondary school in Ontario.

Coach D’Amore is thrilled to be adding a quarterback of Liam’s calibre to the Lancer lineup.

“This is a big day for Lancer Football and the next step in the development of our program. For us to sign a player of Liam’s calibre shows that we are an attractive destination for the top players in this province and will help bring more talented players here going forward,” said D’Amore. It was very important for us to bring in a talented player who can push our veteran quarterbacks and make everyone better in the process.”

D’Amore continues, “With Austin’s (Kennedy) graduation, there is an open spot at a key position for our team. Though we have confidence in the quarterbacks on our roster, we wanted to bring in a top young player who has the ability to compete and even win the job as a freshman. We believe Liam has that capability and we are excited to see it all unfold at training camp.”

For Putt, the University of Windsor was the right fit both from an athletic and academic perspective.

“I am excited to be attending the University of Windsor in the fall,” said Putt. “Windsor offers the Criminology program I was looking for and I really like the direction the football team is headed in with their four straight playoff appearances. I am eager to get started by learning the playbook and to being coached to reach my highest potential.”

No stranger to Coach D’Amore and his coaching style, Liam is looking forward to joining the Lancer Football program.

“I have been coached by Coach D’Amore on three separate occasions which gave me an insight on what the next five years will look like from a coaching standpoint,” added Putt. “With Austin graduating, there is an opportunity to compete with the other quarterbacks on the roster for playing time early in my career rather than later. I’m excited to get going.”
