The hidden players are sometimes the ones you need to rely on the most.

Diego Holz’s time playing football started in the town of Brooks where he played for many years with the Crusaders and eventually moved up into Fort Mac where he has since joined and continues to play with the Holy Trinity Northern Knights.

Predominantly an Offensive linesman, his memories from the past season are in one particular game where he provided a consistent amount of good blocking and providing pass protection with zone blocking. In that game he managed a defensive touchdown off a fumble recovery. To conclude this past season Diego was awarded the Linesman MVP.

Heading into his Grade 12 year with the Northern Knights, Diego optimistically trains 4-5 days a week weightlifting, explosiveness training and cardio with biking and swimming.  However, none of this physical training is beneficial if the power of knowledge isn’t added to the training regimen. Using the mental and physical tools that have been taught through various camps and coaches help with his future goals on the field, “I am putting work into perfecting my steps, and my stance, and learning ways to tweak the way I play to become a more effective player and create a larger impact when stepping on the field.”

Influences also help define a character on and off the field and in this case Diego’s are his family, his football brothers and of course all of the coaching staff. These people help push him to sharpen his skills. Yet, there is always one coach that pushes a little harder to get the best out of Diego; Kwame Osei. “He provides inspiration and unmatchable guidance through training tips, diet and skill development.”

With all of the wisdom Diego has been given, he is also insightful himself as to the out look to the sport as a team. “I am a strong believer in the saying ‘we are only as strong as our weakest link’. Therefore I value the development within our rookies and step up to take a leadership role out on the field.”

As of this moment there have not been any official visits and or considerations, but Diego is excited to be given the chance to even explore the opportunities. The recruitment process has been limited to off season camps such as Simon Fraser University, Although these are somewhat limiting, Diego is excited to see what the future will hold.

With the options of where Diego’s feet may land and the future still a little unknown, he would love to explore a career in Medical Science like possibly specializing in Physical Therapy, Rehabilitation, or possibly would like to consider even Veterinary courses. With all of these options of football and post-secondary school, Diego has an acute awareness of how to attain a successful on and off field career.
