McGill’s future vision appealed to CEGEP recruit (VIDEO)

CEGEP wide receiver joins RSEQ team’s 2016 class.

Bastien Phaneuf-Thibault will be staying home to begin his CIS career.

Yesterday, the 6’3, 195 pound wide receiver from Montreal, Quebec committed to the McGill Redmen.  Phaneuf-Thibault will join the Redmen for the 2016 RSEQ season.

Ultimately, the Redmen’s vision for the future and unwavering interest were the decisive factors for Phaneuf-Thibault.

“The reason I committed to McGill is the seriousness of the program to progress and stand by the best colleges on this country,” elaborated Phaneuf-Thibault.  “I like how they see things, and also, I loved Ben Groulx [Redmen Offensive Coordinator], his football mentality and football IQ.”

“For sure, the fact that the program was strongly interested in me and in my potential was appealing.”

Phaneuf-Thibault will play his final season with CEGEP Division 2 team, Andre-Grasset Phenix this fall.  In seven games during the 2014 campaign, the wide receiver amassed 400 yards.  While he suffered an elbow injury in the latter part of the regular season, Phaneuf-Thibault played on and guided the Phenix to a Bol D’Or Championship appearance.

Previous to the Phenix, the wide receiver suited up for RSEQ Juvenile Division 1 team, Notre-Dame Cactus.
