CEGEP defensive standout opts for NCAA route

Three weeks after committing to the Carleton Ravens, Julien Patrice Kafo has opted to go south of the border for his gridiron career.

Yesterday, the 6’4, 245 pound defensive end from Mount Tremblant, Quebec has committed to NCAA Division 1 FBS team University of Minnesota Gophers. This was on the heels of visiting the midwestern United States campus this past weekend.

Other NCAA teams Kafo received NCAA offers from included Pittsburgh, Connecticut, Indiana, and Miami-Ohio.

Kafo recently completed a successful career with CEGEP Division 1 team, Vanier Cheetahs.  During the 2012 season with the Cheetahs, Kafo registered 27.5 tackles, 4 TFLs, recorded five sacks and two batted down passes, Previous to the Cheetahs, Kafo played high school football for Polyvalente de Monts. Academically, the Quebec defensive end will study business at the NCAA campus.

Ravens Strength and Conditioning Coach Darrell Adams said in a recent interview with CFC that the Quebec defensive end is a rare gem that possesses a lot of talent, skills and intangibles that will be an asset to any future team Kafo plays for in his career.

“Julien is a one of a kind talent,” assessed Adams.  “He has the ability to efficiently stop the run and rush the passer.”

Kafo will join the Gophers for the 2014 NCAA season.
