Mississauga’s Brent Urban goes 134th overall in NFL Draft

Brent Urban (Mississauga, Ontario) has been selected in the National Football League’s annual draft 134th overall by the Baltimore Ravens. Β The Mississauga native began his football career in grade 9 at Mississauga’s Lorne Park high school before moving on to an NCAA career at Virgnia. Β He was drafted 15th overall in the 2013 CFL draft by the Hamilton Tiger Cats.

2013 – All-ACC honorable mention … early selection to the Senior Bowl … Phil Steele midseason All-ACC second team.

AT VIRGINIA
2013 – Started all eight games in which he appeared in … suffered a lower extremity injury in the second quarter at Maryland and missed four games …led the nation’s defensive linemen with nine passes broken up despite missing four games … in eight games has 40 tackles, including ranking No. 2 on the team with 11.5 tackles for loss … made four tackles for a loss at Pitt as UVa held the Panthers to 199 yards of total offense … named CFPA National Defensive Lineman of the Week for his efforts at Pitt … followed up the Pitt game with a career-high 10 tackles against Ball State … made two tackles and broke up one pass at Maryland before leaving the game early in the second quarter with an injury … missed the Duke, Georgia Tech, Clemson and North Carolina games … returned at Miami where he made three tackles and broke up one pass as UVa limited the Hurricanes’ run game to 90 yards. 2012 – One of 11 Cavaliers to start all 12 games … finished the season with 20 tackles … made first collegiate start against Richmond … made three stops against Penn State … made three tackles and made first career sack at NC State … made second career sack against North Carolina … made a career-high five tackles and returned a fumble 16 yards for a touchdown at Virginia Tech … became the first Cavalier to return a fumble for a touchdown since Chris Cook at Miami in 2007. 2011 – Appeared in all 13 of Virginia’s games … made 15 tackles, including 2.5 tackles for a loss of three yards … had a career-high six stops against Virginia Tech … had three tackles at North Carolina … had two tackles against Duke … also made stops against Southern Miss and Idaho … made two solo tackles against Auburn in the Chick-fil-A Bowl. 2010 – Appeared in three of Virginia’s 12 games … slowed early in the season by injury … made collegiate debut against North Carolina … saw time in 13 plays on defense and one on special teams … also appeared at Boston College and at Virginia Tech. 2009 – Did not appear in any games in 2009 … redshirted.
