Montreal LB opts for NCAA’s Mercyhurst Lakers (VIDEO)

Last month, Devantie Campbell has a change of heart.

After signing with the Concordia Stingers, the 5’11, 222 pound linebacker from Montreal, Quebec opted out and decided to commit to NCAA Division 2 team, Mercyhurst Lakers, which is located in Erie, Pennsylvania.

Campbell issued the following statement regarding his decision:

“I sat down with my family and discussed my future plans and I would like to announce that I will be de-committing from Concordia University to pursuit my studies for a Sports Management degree at Mercyhurst University in Pennsylvania while playing football.”

“I would like to thank everyone who supports my decision I have made because this is a decision I believe is best towards my future.”

“On my behalf I would like to thank Coach Pat Donovan and the Concordia Stingers coaching staff and family on the opportunity you have given me, I am extremely grateful and would like to wish you guys the best of luck this season.”

“To all those people who believe that it’s not the best decision, thank you for your feed back but again this is a decision I made for my future.”

“I use to think all I want to do is play football but as I got older I became wiser and realized there’s life after sports. To all those kids out there I just want to leave you guys with one last thing. Don’t go to school to play sports, use the sport to get an education.”

“Thank you again and Go Lakers !?”

Recently, the defensive standout completed a stint with Canada Prep Academy.  Prior to that, Campbell played high school football for Buffalo, New York team St. Francis Raiders. He also previously suited up for LaSalle Warriors.
