More Browns players commit to UofC Dinos

Calgary’s Class of 2017 grows by three more.

Running back Ethan Moroz, defensive lineman Curtis Prime and wide receiver Alex Groshak from St. Francis High School are the next wave of Browns players to join the University of Calgary Dinos.

Three and a half years ago, Ethan Moroz took his first steps onto the gridiron in his home of Calgary, Alberta, and itā€™s where he will be playing for the foreseeable future. ā€œItā€™s close to my friends and family and a lot of my friends have been recruited to the Dinos as well,ā€ he said. ā€œThe Dinos program is one of it not the best in Canada and Iā€™m proud to be apart of it.ā€

He added that, ā€œI do not know Head Coach Wayne well yet, but I can tell he is passionate and knows what he is doing. I look forward to working hard for him!ā€

Standing at 5ā€™10.5 and 180lbs, he has suited up for the Calgary Cowboys at the bantam and midget level, the St. Francis Browns from grade 10 to 12 and Team Calgary at the 2014 Alberta Summer Games. In his first year with the Cowboys, he helped his team win a Tier 1 city and provincial championship. He was also an all-star in that 2013 season. In 2014, he won gold at the Summer Games and was part of a Browns team that won Division 1 Cities. He was co-MVP with Alex Groshak that season.

His winning ways wouldnā€™t stop there. In 2015, he was a Calgary-Area Midget Football Association all-star, the same year the Browns won cities and provincials. Moroz, however, missed part of the season due to surgery. It didnā€™t slow him down, though, and the next season he was a Calgary Senior High School Athletic Association all-star after winning another city and provincial championship. He was also an honourable mention on CFC.

ā€œIf it were not for all the great coaches I had and the extra off season training, starting in (my first) bantam year, there is no way this would’ve happened,ā€ he said. But, the future communications and media studies student also hits the books as hard, or perhaps harder, than he hits the gym. He said, ā€œI put more time into my studies then I do into training because that is number one.ā€

Curtis Prime, a fellow product of Calgary and the St. Francis Browns, chose the University of Calgary for a few close-to-heart reasons. ā€œMy father went to UofC and my grandfather has been a fan of the team for as long as I can remember,ā€ he said. ā€œAlso, many of the people at my high school are going there as well.ā€

The 6ā€™3, 235lbs former Calgary Cowboy added that, ā€œThe coaches are great people and have lots of experience.ā€

Family ties and a strong coaching staff, what more could you ask for?

Prime, who will be pursuing general studies due to uncertainty about what he wants to major in, was part of the Browns team that say city championships in 2014, 2015 and 2016, as well as provincials in 2015 and 2016.

Alex Groshak is quite familiar with Morok and Prime, not only because they share the same high school, but also the same midget Cowboys team. But, having a chance to play with former teammates is a bonus. “From an athletic standpoint, the UofC has a reputation of being one of Canada’s top programs and it’s something that I wanted to be a part of. I feel like I can contribute over the years to the success of the team while receiving a first class education,” he said.

“I felt like I had a very strong connection with the coaches at the UofC on the first time I met with Coach Harris, Coach Sheahan and Coach Chapdelaine. I feel they provide me an opportunity to compete and contribute to the team,” he added.

Groshak also said that academically, Calgary has some of the best programs that interest him, such as the Haskayne School of Business.

The 6’0, 190lbs product of Calgary has played for his fair share of teams. He played with the Calgary Cowboys for nine years, starting with atom and finishing with midget. He has also suited up for the Bantam Selects, Team Calgary at the Alberta Summer Games, Team Alberta U16 (International Bowl), Team Alberta U18 (Football Canada Cup) and Team Canada. From 2006 to 2016, he has held various caption positions for his teams.
