Burnaby, BC- The Simon Fraser University football team fell to their conference rivals the Western Oregon Wolves, 20-17 on Saturday afternoon at Terry Fox Field.

Palmer had 65 yards on 18 carries in the game.
Clan quarterback Trey Wheeler (Seattle, WA) completed 27 passes for 283 yards and two touchdowns, both of which were hauled in by Lemar Durant (Coquitlam, BC).
Durant’s two touchdowns were two of his six receptions for 110 yards receiving while Bobby Pospischil (Coquitlam, BC) hauled in 11 catches for 102 yards.
The Clan defence was led by Casey Chin (Port Moody, BC) who posted 12 tackles and forced a fumble in the game.
The Clan defence generated six turnovers in the game.
āWe try to hang our hat on taking the ball away and we did a good job of stopping their running and passing game,” said Chin.Ā “I think we proved that we’re a defence to be reckoned with.ā
The first half of play proved to be evenly matched. After touchdowns from SFU’s Durant and the Wolves Joe Harris, SFU was able to take a 10-7 lead into the locker room at halftime thanks to a late field goal.
WOU opened the second half scoring with a field goal, but an Adam Berger (Cloverdale, BC) fumble recovery led to SFU’s second touchdown of the day when Wheeler found Durant for a 15-yard touchdown strike to cap a four play, 35-yard drive, giving SFU a 17-10 lead.
On their next possession, WOU’s Harris would post his second touchdown of the game with a 25-yard run that tied the game at 17-17 after a WOU extra point.
The Clan would fumble the ensuing kickoff giving possession back to the Wolves and WOU capitalized with a Kelly Morgan field goal making the score 20-17.
SFU appeared to be poised to tie the game with 6:35 remaining when the Clan lined up for a field goal, but the Wolves blocked it and began to run out the clock, taking the game 20-17.
With the loss, the Clan’s record falls to 3-5 on the season.
SFU will now hit the road as they travel to St. George, UT on Saturday, October 27 for a battle with the Dixie State Red Storm
