NCAA: Two members of the Clan named pre-season BSN All-Americans

Burnaby, BC ā€“ Two members of the Simon Fraser University football team have been named to the pre-season Beyond Sports Network All-American team.

Offensive lineman Matthias Goosen (Richmond, BC) earned a spot on the second team while runningback Bo Palmer (North Vancouver, BC) found a place on the third team.

ā€œItā€™s an honour to be recognized with this award,ā€ said Goosen.Ā Ā ā€œOur team has come a long way since our first year in the GNAC and we expect big things this season.Ā Ā This puts a little extra pressure on me to perform at a high standard but Iā€™ve been working hard to be the best I can be.ā€

Goosen started in all 10 games last season as a sophomore.

ā€œItā€™s great to have two players recognized on this list but at the same time, I still feel we have so many quality players here that should be recognized.Ā Ā With four players drafted into the CFL last year it shows how strong our program is and the quality of players we have here,ā€ finished Goosen.

Last season, he was named a first team GNAC all-star.

Palmer received honourable mention on the BSN All-American teams after last season before moving up to the third team this year.

ā€œBeing an honourable mention after last season and now making the third team is very exciting, especially heading into my senior year,ā€ said Palmer.Ā Ā ā€œIt certainly gives me a little more motivation heading into the season.ā€

Last season, Palmer ran for 1,274, which was second in the GNAC, averaging 5.6 yards per carry and scoring eight touchdowns on the season.

Palmer was also named a first team all-star in the GNAC along with Goosen last season.

The 2012 SFU football season kicks off on Thursday, August 30 against Pacific University in Forest Grove, OR.Ā Ā The Clanā€™s 2012 home opener is Saturday, September 8 against Central Washington University at 2:00 p.m. at Terry Fox Field.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
