Offensive lineman Matthias Goosen (Richmond, BC) earned a spot on the second team while runningback Bo Palmer (North Vancouver, BC) found a place on the third team.
βItβs an honour to be recognized with this award,β said Goosen.Β Β βOur team has come a long way since our first year in the GNAC and we expect big things this season.Β Β This puts a little extra pressure on me to perform at a high standard but Iβve been working hard to be the best I can be.β
Goosen started in all 10 games last season as a sophomore.
βItβs great to have two players recognized on this list but at the same time, I still feel we have so many quality players here that should be recognized.Β Β With four players drafted into the CFL last year it shows how strong our program is and the quality of players we have here,β finished Goosen.
Last season, he was named a first team GNAC all-star.
Palmer received honourable mention on the BSN All-American teams after last season before moving up to the third team this year.
βBeing an honourable mention after last season and now making the third team is very exciting, especially heading into my senior year,β said Palmer.Β Β βIt certainly gives me a little more motivation heading into the season.β
Last season, Palmer ran for 1,274, which was second in the GNAC, averaging 5.6 yards per carry and scoring eight touchdowns on the season.
Palmer was also named a first team all-star in the GNAC along with Goosen last season.
The 2012 SFU football season kicks off on Thursday, August 30 against Pacific University in Forest Grove, OR.Β Β The Clanβs 2012 home opener is Saturday, September 8 against Central Washington University at 2:00 p.m. at Terry Fox Field.
