New Brunswick U17 team wins in Rimouski

New Brunswick U17 Football Team Comes Home from Rimouski with a Win

The Under 17 (U17) Provincial football team wrapped up their Spring season with a win on June 27th in Rimouski, Quebec. The team had to come together quickly and represented NB tremendously throughout the month long provincial season.

The U17 team defeated a Rimouski area all star team 49-12 at the CEGEP Stadium in Rimouski. The team rebounded very well following a 41-27 loss to Nova Scotia the weekend before.

In Rimouski QB Hunter Sturgeon of Leo Hayes High opened the scoring with an 11 yard TD run. Sturgeon also threw 3 TD passes to Leo Hayes teammate Scott Maillet. Mcgwire Barker of the OHS Blues ran for two TDs and another Lion, Cam Stewart, closed out the scoring with a TD run. Alex Brown of Leo Hayes kicked four converts, while Harrison Smith of Moncton High hit on three extra points. Team NB’s defense chipped in with three interceptions, with Leo Hayes LBs Travis Fullarton and Joe Richardson, along with Sussex High’s Keegan Waters each making a pick.

The previous week against Nova Scotia at Acadia University, Sturgeon ran for one TD and hit Maillet for two more TD passes. Spencer King of Simonds High also ran for a TD. Brown converted three of the four NB TDs. The Team NB defence was led by OHS Blue Nathan Graham, who finished with 3 sacks and a forced fumble, and Aidan Steeves of Riverview High who had a sack and a forced fumble.

This was the first year Football New Brunswick had ventured to the Rimouski area for an exhibition game. The discussions began with their football group in January and really seemed to work well for both teams. It was a great experience for our athletes and coaches to compete against some other great athletes from out of province.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
