OBIT: Former CFL all-star, Clan coach Rod Woodward

72 year old, Rod Woodward passed away due to complications following a fall on Tuesday evening at the Peace Arch Hospital in White Rock.

Woodward played junior football for the Renfrew Trojans and played 138 games in the CFL from 1967-1978. He won a Grey Cup while being a part of the championship team in Ottawa in 1976. He then went on to coach at Simon Fraser University for 3 seasons after a brief stint as the head of the BC Amateur Football Association.

Woodward is just one of 200 ex-players for the CFL who are part of a class-action lawsuit against the CFL. It is alleged that the CFL withheld information about brain trauma that can lead to long-term mental complications in the future. Woodward had been diagnosed with dementia.

Funeral arrangements have yet to be determined.
