OFA Announces 2013 Team Ontario Head Coach

Guelph, Ontario : OFA is proud to announce Glen Mills as the Head Coach of Team Ontario for 2013 that will compete in the Canada Cup this July 15th-21st in Moncton, New Brunswick. Ontario is sending one team to this year’s tournament. Tryouts begin January 12th at Player’s Paradise in Hamilton, ON. All Tryout information will be posted on the OFA website over the holidays. Please check back soon as well for the announcement of the 3 coaches to fill the coordinator positions.

Glen Mills brings a wealth of experience and leadership to the program.Ā  Ā Mills is currently the head coach of the Perennial Powerhouse Essex Ravens, a position he has held since 1998, leading the team to 5 championship appearances, winning in 1998, 2002, and 2010.Ā  Mills was an assistant coach with Team Ontario from 2002 to 2009 winning 3 National Championships.Ā  Millā€™s championship winning pedigree is sure to help this yearā€™s squad in winning the Football Canada Cup.

**2004-2009 an Under 17 division existed. Ontario sent multiple teams in this age division each year.

Glen is a graduate of Essex High School. After high school Glen played 3 seasons with the AKO

Team Selection Process:

The selection process to make the final team this year has changed.Ā  Please read the following over so you know the new selection process.

There are 5 regional tryout dates (see list below) this year.Ā  Any player wanting to play for the team must attend at least 1 of these tryouts. There will be no exceptions to this rule, if you want to play, you must attend at least 1 tryout.Ā  The top 90 players from the regional tryouts will be invited to our New Red vs. Black Mini-Camp Weekend in April.Ā  Players will go through a university style mini-camp followed by a Red vs. Black game that will be filmed to professional CFL standards in which the final roster for the Canada Cup will be selected.

Age:

  • You must be born in 1996 or 1997 to eligible for this yearā€™s team.

Tryout Dates:

  • January 12 ā€“ Players Paradise – 9am-3pm ā€“ Stoney Creek, ON

  • January 19 ā€“ Guelph Indoor Field House ā€“ 12pm-6pm ā€“ Guelph, ON

  • February 9 ā€“ BMO Centre ā€“ 12pm-5pm ā€“ London, ON

  • March 30 ā€“ Louis Riel Dome ā€“ 12pm-4pm ā€“ Ottawa, ON

  • April 6 ā€“ University of Toronto Bubble 12:30pm-5:30pm ā€“ Toronto, ON

Tryout Cost:

  • $75 pre-registered
  • $40 if you previously attended an OFA Team Ontario & Select Tryout for 2013.
  • $100 at the door (regardless of previous tryout attendance)

Things you must bring to the tryout:

  • Cleats
  • Full Equipment
  • High School Transcript ā€“ THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT – go to your guidance councillor and ask for a copy
  • Valid Photo ID

Red vs. Black Mini-Camp Weekend:

  • April 19-21 @ University of Guelph
    • Fri. Arrival & Meetings
    • Sat. Practices & Meetings
    • Sun. Walk-thru & Red vs. Black Game & Post-Game Barbeque

Team Ontario Pre-Tournament Mini-Camp:

  • July 10-12
  • Location TBD

Football Canada Cup:

  • July 15-21 in Moncton, NB
  • Team Ontario
  • Departure: July 14
  • Return: July 22

The tryout cost is $75 and the Red vs. Black Weekend is $200.Ā  The regular tournament cost is $1200.Ā  Those players that make the team will have the $200 they spend at the Red vs. Black Game subtracted from the Canada Cup cost making the tournament cost only $1000!

Regardless of whether you make the team, we want the entire process to help you become better as a football player so you can better achieve your goals.
