OUA BY THE NUMBERS – ALL-STAR EDITION

HAMILTON, Ont. – A look at stats and figures from Ontario University Athletics’ (OUA) All-Stars between January 1, 2010 and December 15, 2010.

679 – The number of OUA All-Stars named in 2010. OUA named All-Stars in 22 different sports last season.

88 – The number of All-Stars named in the sport of soccer. In the OUA, soccer is the sport that names the most All-Stars in one season.

17 – The number of All-Stars from Ottawa that attend either Carleton University or the University of Ottawa. Of the 28 All-Stars named from the nation’s capital, 60 per cent have chosen to compete for a university in their hometown.

100 – The number of out of province All-Stars named in 2010. OUA named All-Stars in eight different provinces and one territory in the last year, the most coming from the province of British Columbia.

23 – The number of international All-Stars named in 2010. These All-Stars come from 15 different countries around the world: Barbados, Brazil, China, Egypt, France, Ireland, Jamaica, Libya, Netherlands, New Zealand, Nigeria, Scotland, Serbia, Swaziland and the United States.

7 – The number of OUA athletes that won more than one All-Star award in the year of 2010. Western’s Craig Butler (London, Ont.) won three separate All-Star awards for the 2010 football season. Three different figure skaters in OUA also earned more than one All-Star nod. Windsor Lancer Adam Kellar (Hampton, N.B.) and Guelph Gryphon Jess Vanhie (Ailsa Craig, Ont.) won All-Star awards in Cross Country and Track and Field for the year of 2010.

9 – The number of athletes from the McMaster Marauders that were named All-Stars, whose hometown is Hamilton, Ont.

106 – The number of All-Stars named from Western in 2010. The Mustangs had the most All-Stars of all schools competing in OUA, naming student-athletes All-Stars in 21 different sports.

59 – The number of All-Stars that came from the city of Toronto. Ontario’s capital, with a population of over 2.5 million, was the hometown for the most All-Stars in 2010.
