Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
The Ontario University Athletics board of directors have voted to not support McGill University’s request for playing privileges in OUA football.
A statement released by the OUA Wednesday evening indicated that “the request for playing privileges is appropriate in circumstances when teams do not have access to leagues in their own regional association. In the case of McGill’s football program, the university can and does play football in Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec which is a viable league that allows McGill to compete in CIS football and the opportunity to compete for the Vanier Cup.”
“We respectfully accept the decision of the Board of the OUA and will continue to play football in the RSEQ next year,” said Drew Love, executive director of athletics and recreation at McGill. “We have continued to work cordially with the RSEQ and with all member football schools over the past several months to address issues and concerns to all members and look forward to continuing those discussions.”
McGill applied to the OUA last May as the league will be expanding to 11 teams with the addition of Carleton in 2013, which opened the door for the possibility of a 12th squad
