QB commit finds passion, opportunity with Sherbrooke Vert & Or

The Vert & Or welcome another Québec commit to their Class of 2017.

It seems that for Xavier Owens, a quarterback from Cégep de Rimouski, the University of Sherbrooke was the closest thing to a perfect fix as you could get.

“Sherbrooke simply has the whole package,” Owens said. “I love the setting. It’s a nice mix of big and small. It offers opportunity and a close-knit community at the same time.”

It didn’t take long for Owens to find his place among the team. He said that the first thing that struck him was the passion the coaches had for the game. “It got to me because I love playing football. I love competition and I love winning. I could feel the similarities between my passion for the game and the one the coaching staff has,” he said.

Standing at 6’2, 195lbs, the future economics student also found a school that he said has great academics, a fantastic student experience and appealing facilities and campus.

Originally from Montréal, Québec, Owens has spent four years with the Saint-Laurent Spartans and two with Les Loups de l’École secondaire Curé-Antoine-Labelle (RSEQ). He has had three different cégep teams, Les Nomades du Collège Montmorency (RSEQ Division 1), the Vanier Cheetahs (RSEQ Division 1) and his latest team, Les Pionniers de Rimouski (RSEQ Division 3). In 2016, he was an all-star and offensive player of the year.

With a coaching staff he can relate to, Owens is set to bring his drive and determination to the team. Feeding off one another’s passion will do nothing but good. “(It’s a) recipe for success and that is where I truly believe the organization is heading,” Owens said. “Le Vert & Or are a family; we are more than a team.”

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
