Rams coaches, atmosphere attracts three

Rams add one local commit, one provincial commit and one out-of-province commit to their 2020 class.

Hunter Bohay, a running back from Michael A. Riffle High School, Chopper Hippe, a linebacker from the Edmonton Wildcats (CJFL), and Andrew Goldenthal, an offensive lineman from the Kamloops Broncos, all found a home with the University of Regina Rams.

Hunter Bohay

A product of Regina, Saskatchewan, Hunter Bohay is ready to take his career to the university circuit. “I’ve always wanted to play football at the next level, and it means a lot to me to play for my hometown and with a lot of great guys I’ve played with before,” he said.

“The coaching staff has been very professional and dedicated to making me want to sign there, and I’m excited to be coached by them.”

Standing at 5’11, 190lbs, Bohay is interested in studying kinesiology.

The nine-year veteran has played for the Thunderbirds, Razorbacks and the Stampeders in the RMFL. He also played for the Sask Selects and spent three years with the Riffle Royals (RHSAA). In 2016, he was named MVP with the Sask Selects. He also received multiple awards with the Royals. In 2019, he was named as the ‘offensive player of the year.’

“Football has impacted my life greatly and made me the man I am today,” he said. “I just want to thank my coaches, friends and family (for helping me) get to where I am today and move onto the next chapter of my football career. Horns up baby!”

Chopper Hippe

After a short stint in Alberta, Chopper Hippe is coming back to Saskatchewan.

“I decided to come to the Regina Rams because I trust in the coaching staff here and their abilities to make me into the best player that I can be. I believe that the Regina Rams have a strong foundation to build a great team,” he said.

“The environment of the players is welcoming,” added the 6’2, 220lbs athlete. “The guys are great, and I think the coaching staff is amazing and have a lot of knowledge to pass onto us and (are) very dedicated to the program.”

Hippe, who is interested in studying education, spent three years with the Holy Rosary Raiders (WFL) in his hometown of Lloydminster, Saskatchewan before spending the next two with the Edmonton Wildcats (CJFL). While with the Wildcats, he won the PFC rookie of the year in 2019 and was an all-star the following year.

The prairies are calling out to Andrew Goldenthal.

“I really enjoyed my trip there. Out of all the places I visited, Regina felt like home. I connected with players and coaches in a way I hadn’t before” Goldenthal said. “The university is a place I want to go, and the team is a program I would love to play for.”

He added that, “The coaches were very friendly, but also quite knowledgeable. They genuinely care about their players both on and off the field.”

Goldenthal is interested in taking business. He said that he is keeping his options open in case he findings something he is more interested in.

Hailing from Vernon, BC, Goldenthal has been playing football for 10 years. The 6’3, 282lbs lineman has played for the Vernon Blue Bombers, the Vernon Yellow Jackets, the Clarence Fulton Maroons (BCSSFA) and the Kamloops Broncos (CJFL). He has also participated in the Fox 40 Prospect Challenge.
