RECAP (ONT – PEEL): #CFC100 Richards sets the tone as CFC#10 Ravens defeat CFC#4 Spartans for Tier 1 Championship

In a tense and physical battle in the CFC National High School Game of the Week, CFC#10 St Roch Ravens defeated CFC#4 Lorne Park Spartans 22-7 at Centennial Park in Etobicoke on Thursday November 19th.
The first quarter was a defensive battle with both defences hitting hard and causing a number of 2 and outs. Midway through the first quarter #CFC100 Tyrell Richards picked off Lorne Park quarterback Alex Lavric in his first of two interceptions and returned it 40 yards for the major.

The Ravens defence  led by Temi Owoje, Mariano Christiaans and Tayo Adeyeye pressured and flustered Lavric all day forcing him into poor throws and never really looking comfortable in the pocket.
The Spartans answered back in the 2nd quarter taking advantage of a roughing the passer call and marched down the field punching in a rushing touchdown to tie the game going into the half.
With the Spartans doing a formidable job containing 1000 plus yard rusher Malcolm Miller in the first half, the Ravens turned to the air with quarterback Deandre Rose who returned to the game after missing several series while spraining both ankles when being sacked by a Spartans linebacker.

On the first play of the second half, Rose connected with wide receiver Daniel Clarke on a 70 yard slant pass and Clarke did the rest giving the Ravens a 14-7 lead. The long touchdown got Rose going as he passed for 168 yards in the third quarter alone finding Clarke three more times to give Clarke five receptions, 126 yards receiving and a touchdown on the afternoon.
Late in the third with under five minutes to play in the quarter special teams superstar Jamaal Nkrumah returned a punt 60 yards for a touchdown to ice the game for the Ravens. This was Jamaal’s fourth kick return / punt return of the season and eighth of his senior football career.
Like many wins for the Ravens this year, it was a total team effort with excellent play by the offense, defence as well as special teams. The Ravens will face Adam Scott of Peterborough in an OFSAA bowl game to vie for the title of Provincial Champions.
