RECAP: Rebels earn shutout victory over Graal

This second game of the Rebels de la Montee’s season was a one sided affair. Despite several penalties, the Rebels dominated throughout the match to earn a 48-0 shutout victory over Clairetan de Victoriaville Graal.

Defensively, the Graal responded very well to the Rebels offensive preventing passes to be completed and also preventing the conversion attempts to be successful.

As for the Graal offence, they were well contained by the Rebels defence who managed beautiful interception passes in addition to fumble recoveries.

The Rebels’ offensive gave everything from the start, scoring a point in the first minutes of the game with the release of the ball at the back of the field following a punt. Beautiful aerial games and beautiful races were completed. The thirst for victory and the enthusiasm it brought the players released the game’s intensity. This aspect of the game has to improve because nice scoring opportunities were missed.

Defensively, the Rebels had beautiful pass interceptions and constantly pressured the opposing offence, managing to create some nervousness in the execution of their passing game as much on the ground.

After the game, Rebels Offensive Coordinator Nicholas Robitaille shared his thoughts.

“Despite the final score, we played some saw tooth,” said Robitaille.  “The game was marked by a lot of missed tackles by our offensive line and escaped several passes by our receivers.”

“Nevertheless, we still had an excellent performance on the ground from our running backs, but especially our quarterback Maxime Corriveau who ended the day with two touchdowns and two touchdown passes. Others that scored were Gabriel Delisle (his first with the Rebels), Oumar Layini (he also added a field goal), Anthony Allard and Jean Ombeni. A big test for our offence  will be next week against our rivals from Du Phare. We will have to raise our game a notch or two to be successful against their front, which is always aggressive.”

For his part, Rebels Program Manager, Head Coach and Offensive Coordinator Marc-Antoine Joseph, program manager was pleased.

”I am satisfied with how our defence played as they did not allow attempts, intercepted the ball twice (Antoine Jalbert and Marc-Antoine Blanchette) and recovered two fumbles (John and Dodie Ombeni Alexis Paradis).”

“We also had  good improvement in the pursuit to the running backs. However, we still have to improve before facing Du Phare which will present a more seasoned offence. The defensive front will have to particularly strengthen its performance against the ground game and shrink significantly the space between the defensive line and linebackers and better occupy and defend the openings at the line of scrimmage.”
