Recruiting 101: The key to a great vertical jump? It’s all about technique

Everybody wants a 35-inch vert.

It’s flashy. It gets posted. It gets attention. For skilled players, especially wideouts, defensive backs, and linebackers, that number can turn heads fast on a combine sheet.

But here’s the truth. Most players aren’t being held back by power. They’re being held back by poor technique.

We see it every combine. Guys walking up with goliath thighs and still barely touch 25 inches. Meanwhile, some 160lbs slot receiver with average weight room numbers floats into the 35 range like it’s nothing.

Why aren’t the strongest athletes getting the best verticals? It’s simple. Technique wins.
