U-16 TEAM BC WINS GOLD MEDAL AT 2013 RED RIVER CUP

WINNIPEG, MB. – Football BC’s provincial under-16 tackle team (β€œTeam BC”) has won the gold medal at the 2013 Red River Cup tournament at Investors Group Field in Winnipeg, Manitoba after defeating Winnipeg West by a score of 34-21.

With the victory, Team BC concludes the tournament with an overall record of three wins and two losses.

Team BC out-scored Winnipeg West 27-0 of the gold medal game en route to the victory.

β€œTeam BC came to play,” said Team BC head coach Sean Roden immediately following the end of the game. It was by far our best game of the tournament.”

β€œThe boys clearly wanted it and came with high intensity and when we do that we have good results.”

DL Zackari Vint (Kelowna Owls), who was named the Team BC player of the game, got his team on the board early in the first quarter after picking off a tipped pass and running it in for a touchdown to put BC up 6-0 following a missed convert attempt.

Vint, who finished with six tackles in the contest, added another score with no time left in the first half after recovering a ball in the end zone following a botch snap by Winnipeg West.

REC Tyson Pencer (North Delta Longhorns) had a 16-yard touchdown catch and RB Alexsander Akpata (Vancouver College Fighting Irish) had a 40-yard touchdown run also for Team BC during the first half of play.

After Winnipeg West opened the second half with an early score courtesy of their game MVP, RB Trevor Wright, Team BC responded early in the fourth quarter with Akpata finishing off a long drive with a 1-yard plunge for a touchdown.

Winnipeg West would tally two late touchdowns in the fourth quarter to round out the scoring.

Taylor Pencer left the game during the first half after suffering an apparent ankle injury. He was transported to hospital. No further details are known about his injury at this current time.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
