Regina’s Ruller rising star for Temptation

While the last two seasons has seen a remarkable amount of Canadian content on the Seattle Mist, another elite Canadian athlete is staking her claim in the Legends Football League. A multi-talented athlete with remarkable potential, Amanda Ruller just completed her rookie season with the Mists’ premier rival, the Los Angeles Temptation, establishing herself as a rising star.

Hailing from Regina, Saskatchewan, Ruller is more than just an accomplished athlete and a Certified Personal Trainer (plus a Certified Exercise Physiologis). The 5’1” speedster also possesses a background in pageantry. The 2014 winner of Miss Southern Saskatchewan, Ruller also enjoyed a top five finish in Miss Petite Canada.

Like so many women from Saskatchewan that have graced the gridiron, the iconic Roughriders served as her initial introduction to the sport. Devoted to the green and white, Ruller is also a fan of the NHL’s Montreal Canadiens, while she also roots for the NFL’s San Diego Chargers.

Despite emerging as a fan favorite with the Temptation fanbase, Ruller is not the only Canadian to have suited up for the franchise. Dating back to its early years in 2005, Jerilee Woodford of Harbor Main, Newfoundland became the first Canadian to play for the squad. In 2006, Woodford was joined by Toronto’s Michelle Harding on the Temptation roster.

Of note, Temptation does not signify Ruller’s only brush with Los Angeles. Currently splitting her time between Regina and LA, she was a contestant on the famed television game show, “The Price is Right.” Taped in October 2014, Ruller donned a bandana with the iconic maple leaf adorned throughout. Having won a vehicle on the show, she exercised the option of taking a cash alternative. Eventually, she would purchase a Jeep Patriot with the winnings.

Blessed with athletic ability, Ruller ran track at the Canadian Interuniversity Sport level with the University of Regina Cougars. Graduating with a degree in Kinesiology, she set the school record for fastest time in the 60-meter dash with a blazing time of 7.59.

During her record-breaking career with the Cougars, Ruller earned bronze and silver medals in the 60-metre and 4 x 200 metre relay races at the Canada West Conference championships while earning CIS Second-Team All-Canadian honours. Her highest finish at the national level was 11th in the 60-meter race (2011) and 7th in the 4 x 200 metre relay (also in 2011).

Such speed brought about the attention of those involved with Skeleton racing in Canada. During the 2012-13 Skeleton season, Ruller ranked 18th nationally. In addition to her gridiron ambitions, Ruller has her sights set on qualifying for the 2018 Winter Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea.

Following her strong rookie campaign with the Temptation, Ruller competed in all five regular season games, helping propel her club to a second place finish in the Western Conference, along with securing a playoff spot. As the Temptation look to capture their first Legends Cup victory since 2011, it would signify a remarkable milestone in Ruller’s athletic career.

Posting a remarkable time of 4.75 in the 40-yard dash, Ruller not only ranked third on the Temptation in rushing, Ruller led all rookies, respectively. Her rushing totals accounted for 11% of the Temptation’s rushing attack with her longest run representing 18 yards. Along with rushing leader Carmen Bourseau (who once competed with LFL Canada’s Regina Rage), the two tied for seventh in receiving yardage.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
