Raiders name Ridgeway as new head coach

he V.I. Raiders are excited to announce the appointment of the second Head Coach in franchise history. Former RaiderΒ Brian RidgewayΒ has been chosen to lead the Raiders into the 2014 season as they try to defend their BCFC Championship and win a 4th Canadian Bowl.

The 29 year old Ridgeway joins the Raiders after three seasons playing in the CFL with the Montreal Alouettes. An All Canadian linebacker, Brian helped lead the Raiders to the 2006 Canadian Bowl championship, a perfect way to finish his four year CJFL career. Ridgeway joined the Alouettes after four seasons of CIS football, one with St. Mary’s and three with Simon Fraser.

β€œThis is a dream come true for me, as Brian is not only an alumni, but was one of the players responsible for laying the foundation of this team and creating the β€œRaider Way” of doing business,” commented Raiders CEO Hadi Abassi. Β “He was a true leader in his time with us on the field and his accomplishments both on and off the field in life show his true character and leadership.”

“He is a hard working man and an inspiration to me. The future of the Raiders is bright and powerful with Brian at the helm and I am very excited about this new direction for our franchise.”

Raiders President Chris Cross echoed the sentiments of Abassi.

β€œI am so happy we got this guy for the job. He is an alumni with an amazing pedigree of winning at all levels,” said Cross. Β “We are excited for the professionalism he will bring to our team coming straight out of the CFL and for the passion that this young man is full of.”

Additionally, Raiders Vice President Kabel Atwall looks forward to the contributions Ridgeway will bring to the team.

β€œI could not be more excited for the passion that Brian brings to this position,” expressed Atwall.

“It is wonderful having an alumni fill this position and expands on our β€œRaider Family” mantra. During the interview process, the more we spoke with Brian, the more we realized he was the perfect fit for our organization with his passion, work ethic, organization and commitment to winning.”
