Saskatoon football has a serious problem

In Saskatoon there is a serious lack of quality football fields that needs immediate attention by Saskatoon Town Council. We in the football community in Saskatoon have been promised for years a new Sport Turf Field at Gordie Howe Bowl and a grounds upgrade and as of today nothing has been done.

With the Hilltop Football Club now planning for play-offs and possible 14th CJFL championship in one week, they have had to move to Griffiths Stadium due to the poor field conditions at Gordie Howe Bowl. The Hilltops could host the CJFL national championship in Saskatoon, but again they would have to hold the game at Griffiths Stadium due to the poor fields at Gordie Howe Bowl.
Now it has been learned that the light poles at the Hilltop’s Atchison Field , Home of the Hilltops, have been condemned this week as the Hilltops prepare for the play-offs and they have no practice field as the light pole have been removed. The city at this time of year finally looked at the poles and found them unsuitable and a safety hazard? Why not 4 months ago and then got them replaced in a couple of days?

Saskatoon Kinsmen Minor Football League does play on the SaskTel Soccer Center outdoor Sport Turf fields. These fields are not suitable for High School Football ,Hilltops and Huskies as the endzones where shortened to 10 yards and not enough spacing between the fence and football fields due to poor planning by the city.

With football membership growing by 43 % over the last 5 years in Saskatchewan, proper fields are a must to accommodate that growth in our city and the province. Regina has 3 regulation Sport Turf fields for Football / soccer, Saskatoon one. Saskatoon Shines ,I do not think so.
