SFU Football: Stanford and Chin named Red Lion Players of the Week
Monday, September 09, 2013
Portland, OR β Simon Fraser University football players Ryan Stanford (Phoenix, AZ) and Casey Chin (Port Moody, BC) have been named the Red Lion offensive and defensive players of the week in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference.
The Clan duo sweep the player of the week honours for SFU after the Clanβs week one win over the Humboldt State University Lumberjacks in Arcata, CA, who were picked to win the GNAC in the pre-season coaches poll.

Stanford earns the award after his first game as a member of the Clan.
In his SFU debut, the sophomore quarterback threw for 446 yards and three touchdowns as the Clan upset Humboldt 41-27 at the Redwood Bowl, handing the Lumberjacks just their third home loss in the past four seasons.
Stanford completed 33 of 46 passes. Β His yardage total is the fifth highest single-game total in GNAC history.

While Stanford was getting his feet wet for the first time as a Clan player, Chin was playing the first game of his senior season.
He had 10 tackles, including one for a loss of two yards, and a pair of fourth-quarter interceptions in the Clanβs victory.
Chinβs first interception, which he returned 70 yards, came on a first down from the Clan 19 with 2:51 left. Β He then sealed the victory with another interception with 48 seconds remaining.
The win starts the Clan’s season at 1-0, heading into SFUβs bye week.
SFU will look to move to 2-0 on September 21 when the Clan travels to Ellensburg, WA to face off against the defending GNAC champions, the Central Washington Wildcats. Game time is 1:00 p.m.
Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
