TORONTO (October 12, 2016) βΒ Bryan Burnham, Mike Reilly and John White were named the Shaw CFL Top Performers of the Week for Week 16 of the CFLβs 2016 season.
The three players were chosen by a panel of judges who independently send their selections to the CFL head office. The panel includes former Canadian Football League players Matt Dunigan and Duane Forde of TSN, and Pierre Vercheval of RDS.
WR | BRYAN BURNHAM | BC LIONS
Bryan Burnham made big gains in key moments in the Lionsβ close Saturday game against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, making him a Shaw CFL Top Performer.
Burnham racked up 208 yards on nine receptions on Saturday. The first came late in the first quarter, a 13-yard toss from quarterback Jonathon Jennings. Late in the second quarter, Burnham caught another pass from 55 yards out, moving the Lions into scoring position and setting up an Anthony Allen touchdown on the next play.
After a 23-yard pass to end the first half, Burnham brought one down at 33 yards to push BC into field goal position. He reeled in two catches in a row in the third quarter, and then followed those up with another reception to eventually put Travis Lulay into touchdown position and give BC the lead.
Not done yet, the Moorestown, NJ native made two catches in the fourth quarter, including one for 41 yards with only two minutes left in the game.
Burnham has 59 receptions and two touchdowns in 2016. He is fifth in the league with 1103 receiving yards.
QB | MIKE REILLY | EDMONTON ESKIMOS
Edmonton quarterback Mike Reilly continued his stellar play in his teamβs 40-20 victory over the Montreal Alouettes on Thanksgiving Monday to earn back-to-back Shaw CFL Top Performer of the Week nods.
Reilly completed 25 of his 34 pass attempts (73.6%) for 346 yards including two touchdown passes and one rushing touchdown of his own versus the Alouettes.
The six-year CFL veteran connected with Brandon Zylstra from 29 yards out to give the receiver his first career CFL touchdown and give Edmonton a 9-8 lead early in the second quarter.
In Edmontonβs first possession of the second half, Reilly orchestrated a 10-play, 75-yard drive that was capped off with an eight-yard touchdown pass to Chris Getzlaf.
The product of Central Washington called his own number and scored his seventh rushing touchdown of the season from three yards out to extend Edmontonβs lead to 29-11.
This marked the 12th game of 2016 that Reilly passed for 300 or more yards; he continues on pace to eclipse the 6,000 yard passing mark.Β This season Reilly leads the league in passing yards with 5,054. He is second in the league with 25 passing touchdowns.
This is the third time he has been named a Shaw CFL Top Performer of the Week.
RB | JOHN WHITE | EDMONTON ESKIMOS
John White turned in another impressive performance in Week 16 in Edmontonβs road victory over the Montreal Alouettes.
He accumulated two rushing touchdowns and 145 rushing yards as well as 13 receiving yards on five catches. Opening a seven-play drive in the first quarter with a five-yard run, White ran another six yards to put kicker Sean Whyte in field goal position and put Edmonton ahead early.
The second quarter saw him make five- and one-yard catches in a quick drive that culminated with a Zylstra touchdown. On the next Edmonton drive, White made another catch and then punched one yard over the line for a major of his own.
A 19-yard sprint in the third set up a Getzlaf touchdown, and five runs on a 10-play drive later in the quarter gave Edmonton another score. With 30 seconds remaining in the quarter, White ran eight yards for his second touchdown of the afternoon. White set up another field goal with some well paced dekes β including a 30-yard dash β before the game expired.
The Torrance, California native has 678 rushing yards in 2016, good for fourth in the league. His seven rushing touchdowns ties him for second in the CFL alongside his quarterback Mike Reilly.
This is Whiteβs second week in a row as a Shaw CFL Top Performer along with teammate Reilly.
