SHAW CFL TOP PERFORMERS – WEEK 16

Zylstra, Harris and Masoli named Shaw CFL Top Performers

Wednesday, October 11, 2017 — TORONTO (October 11th, 2017) – Brandon Zylstra, Trevor Harris and Jeremiah Masoli were named the Shaw CFL Top Performers of the Week for Week 16 of the CFL’s 2017 season.

The three players were chosen by a panel of judges who independently send their selections to the CFL head office. The panel includes former Canadian Football League players Matt Dunigan and Duane Forde of TSN and Pierre Vercheval of RDS.

REC | BRANDON ZYLSTRA | EDMONTON ESKIMOS

Brandon Zylstra turned in another huge performance to help Edmonton snap their six-game losing streak, collecting 201 receiving yards on seven receptions. Zylstra also scored a touchdown in Edmonton’s 42-24 win over the Montreal Alouettes on Monday.

Zylstra was a reliable target for Mike Reilly; his longest catch came in the second quarter, a 45-yarder that contributed to a 95-yard drive ending in a touchdown when he reeled in a 29-yard toss.

The Spicer, Minnesota native has 1335 receiving yards – second in the league – and four touchdowns on 82 receptions in 2017. This season he has eight games with over 100 receiving yards, and four games with over 150.

Zylstra was previously named a Top Performer of the Week in Week 12, as well as a Top Performer of the Month for September.

QB | TREVOR HARRIS | OTTAWA REDBLACKS

Trevor Harris came through with a strong finish for the REDBLACKS in Saturday’s contest against the BC Lions, leading them to a 30-25 victory. Harris finished the game, his first after recovering from a shoulder injury in September, with 380 passing yards and three touchdowns.

Harris had a strong second half, bringing the REDBLACKS back from a 6-25 deficit. He started his touchdown count with a 19-yard toss to Greg Ellingson, following with a second 17-yard pass for the score to Diontae Spencer just minutes later.

The game-winning touchdown came in the opening minutes of the fourth frame, a 45-yard throw to Ellingson to tie the game, with a successful convert, single, and subsequent field goal putting Ottawa ahead.

The Waldo, Ohio native ranks third overall in the CFL with 4,104 passing yards despite missing several games due to injury. He has 76 rushing yards, 26 touchdowns and a 70.8% completion rating.

Harris was also a Shaw CFL Top Performer in Week 2.

QB | JEREMIAH MASOLI | HAMILTON TIGER-CATS

Jeremiah Masoli led Hamilton to a confident 30-13 win over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers on Friday, registering 338 passing yards, 48 rushing yards and two touchdowns to secure a victory at Investors Group Field.

Masoli opened the game with a huge score to set the momentum and establish a lead the Ticats never lost, executing a three-play drive that culminated in a 60-yard throw that found Brandon Banks in the end zone.

He executed a third-quarter eight-play drive to set up an Alex Green rushing play for a touchdown, and followed it in the fourth with a three-yard toss to Luke Tasker to seal the deal. Masoli steered kicker Sergio Castillo into position for four field goals in Friday’s contest.

The Mississippi product has 1,775 passing yards and eight touchdowns in eight games played.

Masoli received Shaw CFL Top Performer recognition in Week 12.
