TORONTO β Winston Rose, William Stanback and Charleston Hughes were named the Shaw CFL Top Performers of the Month for July of the CFLβs 2019 season. The Performers of the Month for July includes all appearances from Week 4 to Week 7.
The three players were chosen by a panel of judges who independently send their selections to the CFL head office. The panel includes former Canadian Football League players Matt Dunigan and Duane Forde of TSN and Pierre Vercheval of RDS.
DB | WINSTON ROSE | WINNIPEG BLUE BOMBERS
Winnipeg defensive back Winston Rose had a July to remember, notching five interceptions across the four-game stretch to double his career total.
The New Mexico State product secured at least one interception in each game in July, including the first multiple-interception game of his career in Winnipegβs highly-anticipated Week 7 visit to Hamilton.
Against Ottawa in Week 6, the Bombersβ smothering defence led the way to a 31-1 victory. Rose made his presence known halfway through the first quarter by jumping a route on Brad Sinopoli and snagging the pass from Jonothon Jennings before returning it 71 yards to open the gameβs scoring. It was the first pick-six of Roseβs career.
On the season, Rose is tied for the league-lead with five interceptions and tops the CFL in interception return yards (109). The three-year veteran also has 14 tackles.
RB | WILLIAM STANBACK | MONTREAL ALOUETTES
Alouettes running back William Stanback accumulated 433 all-purpose yards to power Montreal to a perfect 3-0 in July. He totalled 350 yards on 53 rushes (6.6 yards per carry) and three rushing touchdowns, while adding four receptions for 83 receiving yards. The team sits second in the East Division.
The Virginia Union product had his best showing in Week 4 versus the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. Stanback accumulated 249 yards from scrimmage and a career-high three touchdowns in a single game. He rushed the ball 22 times for 203 yards (9.2 yards per carry), including seven rushes for 10+ yards and four for 20+ yards. For good measure, Stanback also added a reception for 46 yards, and the performance garnered him Shaw CFL Top Performer of the Week honours.
In Week 5, he once again reached the 100 rushing yard mark against the Ottawa REDBLACKS.
This season, the Hempstead, N.Y., native has recorded 504 rushing yards (6.7 yards per rush) and 137 receiving yards, while scoring four touchdowns.
DE | CHARLESTON HUGHES | SASKATCHEWAN ROUGHRIDERS

In Week 6, Hughes sacked BC Lions quarterback Mike Reilly three times, while adding two tackles for a loss, a career-high ten tackles and two forced fumbles. Hughesβ impressive showing earned him a nod as a Shaw CFL Top Performer of the Week.
His remaining sack came in Week 4 against his former team, the Calgary Stampeders.
