Simon Fraser football program terminated

It has been confirmed that the Simon Fraser football program will be terminated.

Simon Fraser played their first game back in 1965, and differentiated themselves from the rest of the football programs in the country by playing American rules as members of the NCAA. They played in the NCAA from 1965-2001 before a brief spell when they joined Canada West from 2002-2009, and then decided to rejoin the NCAA from 2010-2022.

During their stint competing with other U Sports programs, they enjoyed a couple of successful seasons defeating the Alberta Golden Bears in the 2003 Hardy Cup, and returned to the Hardy Cup in 2008 where they bowed out to the Calgary Dinos.

The program has struggled to find similar results since returning to the NCAA posting a 18-99 record since 2010. The Red Leafs moved to the NCAA DII Lone Star Conference last season, but it was reported earlier this year that the conference would not be renewing their membership beyond the 2023 campaign.
