Simon Fraser LB invited to Senior Bowl in Mobile, Alabama

MOBILE, Ala. – Simon Fraser University senior linebacker Jordan Herdman, the two-time Great Northwest Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year, has officially accepted an invitation to the 2017 Reese’s Senior Bowl.  He is the first Clan player ever invited to the prestigious post-season all-star game.
The Senior Bowl showcases the best NFL Draft prospects of those collegiate players who have completed their eligibility. Players will begin practices Jan. 24 and the 68th Reese’s Senior Bowl is scheduled for Saturday, January 28, at Ladd-Peebles Stadium in Mobile, Alabama. Both the NFL Network and ESPN will televise the practices during the week and the NFL Network will carry the game live on Saturday. Kick-off is at 11:30am (Pacific time).

Following his senior season, Herdman was an AFCA Division II All-America Second Team and nominated for the Cliff Harris award as the best defensive player in NCAA Division II Football. The 6-2, 235-pound linebacker re-wrote the Great Northwest Athletic Conference record book during his career, claiming the all-time marks in tackles (428) and assisted tackles (223). Herdman also holds the GNAC single game records with 26 tackles and 17 solo stops.

“We at SFU Football are tremendously proud of Jordan,” said Clan head coach Kelly Bates. “During his time as a member of SFU football Jordan provided a great example of what every student-athlete should strive to be and accomplish. He continues to push himself to be the best player he can be and his hard work and commitment have been rewarded both on and off the field. I know he will wear the SFU Logo with great pride.”

This season, Herdman ranked ninth in Division II with an average of 11.3 tackles per game. Finishing with a conference-leading 113 total tackles (56 solo, 57 assisted), Herdman fell three solo tackles shy of equalling the GNAC career record of 208.

Herdman was First Team All-Conference and West Region and named to the GNAC All-Academic Team with a 3.90 GPA as a biomedical physiology major three straight years.

Following his spectacular 2015 junior season, Herdman was named to the Don Hansen All-American team, when he was the Clan’s first AFCA All-American nod since 1990, when standout wide receiver Nick Mazzoli earned the honour. Mazzoli was drafted first overall in the 1991 Canadian Football League Draft by Hamilton.

There were 110 players selected to participate in The Senior Bowl all-star game and pre-NFL Draft event.  Reese’s Senior Bowl practices begin on Tuesday, Jan. 24 and the week culminates with the game on Saturday, Jan. 28 at 11:30pm (Pacific time) at Ladd-Peebles Stadium. The game will be televised on NFL Network.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
