Third time lucky?

Will the third time around be equally successful for Rive-Sud Quebec?

The team has won two consecutive Wilson Challenge under-15 titles (2011 and 2012) and are looking to make it three in a row this year.

Rive-Sid head coach Carl Gourgues likes the team’s chances of defending its title at the 2013 Wilson Challenge, which begins Saturday in Quebec.

“We should be very competitive during the tournament and we have a great group of young athletes capable of doing big plays,” commented Gourgues.   “I think we are going to be tough to beat on the ground defensively and should be effective on the passing game.”

Quarterback Adrien Guay will execute Rive-Sud’s offensive game plan.  He will be expected to provide leadership on and off the field.

“Adrien Guay has a great deep ball and is very effective inside our system,” assessed Gourgues. “He is one of our captains and will has great leadership amongst his teammates.”

“He should be the one to watch on every play as he is one of our most threatening weapons.”

Another thing to watch for is Guay’s connections with running back Charles Tremblay and wide receiver Louis-Pierre Nappert. Both Tremblay and Nappert will be equally dangerous offensive threats that the opposition will need to find a solution to stop on the field.

As for Rive-Sud’s defensive unit, linebacker Felix-Antoine Beaulieu as well as linemen Xavier Langlois-Asselin and Roberto Lyonnais will be the ones to watch for as they will lead the unit.

Gourgues described this year’s Rive-Sud team as intense with one ultimate goal the players and coaching staff are focused in achieving.

“We are the double champions of the tournament and we are looking for a third straight,”  said Gourgues.

Rive-Sud begins defence of the under-15 Wilson Challenge title on Saturday against Outaouais. Kickoff is 3:00pm.
