This past weekend, Toronto, Ontarioβs Tevaun Smith accomplished a great feat.
After racking up 41 one-handed catches in 60 seconds, the 6β2, 200 pound receiver exceeded the Guinness World Record Mark set just one day earlier by New York Giants and former LSU standout Odell Beckham Jr.
Previously, Beckham Jr. amassed 33 one -handed catches in 60 seconds. In both Smith and Beckhamβs cases, they were 10 yards apart from the passer.

While, Smith, a receiver with the Iowa Hawkeyes who recently completed his senior season, may have beaten Beckhamβs record, he is not considered the Guinness World Record holder.Β This is the due to the fact there is an application process that the receiver must undergo, which could take a minimum of six weeks up to many months before he finds out if he is successful.Β Β Part of that process involves getting witnesses to sign validating that they saw him do it and putting forth any evidence (i.e. videos) to support the claim.
However, Iowa could apply to expedite the process.Β If the school pays $700.00, a Record Adjudicator would visit the school, observe and clock the record being broken and can issue a certificate right then and there.
Currently, Beckham Jr. does have the official certificate claiming that he is the record holder.
This past season with the Hawkeyes, Smith amassed 596 yards on 43 receptions and scored 13 touchdowns in eight starts.Β Β He led the team in receiving yards.Β Β P
The receiver previously suited up for the Toronto Metro Wildcats (OVFL) and Chaminade College School Gryphons. In the 2010-2011 season, Smith got MVP for the Gryphons.
For his exceptional play with Kent School in Connecticut, Smith made All New England offensive player. Additionally, he led Kent into championship football game against Taft and says losing that game is the highlight of his football career. He was awarded the teamβs MVP Award.
He has represented Team Canada in an IFAF game versus Team USA in Texas.
Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
