University and College Visits

I have visited a few schools and thought I would blog about my latest visit. This past weekend I had the privilege of visiting the U of S. It’s located in Saskatoon a small city (well compared to Calgary)….You don’t want to know how cold it was, ya it was very COLD! It’s cold here in Calgary but we get Chinooks, so it is a break from the harsh winters that we get here. We toured the school with Coach Towriss, one part of the school looked like it could have been in the Harry Potter movie, it was really sick. I had to duck down to get into the bathroom; the coach said some parts were still from the 1912’s.They are adding an extension onto the university which will include a three lane track (25m) for functional training like acceleration training, new dorms, meeting rooms and other stuff. We watched some film, got to visit with the academic advisor who answered all my questions. I did not get to see the residence this time but I stayed at them at the u17 games so I know what they look like, I think my mom was more curious. At the u17 games we ate in the cafeteria and the food was pretty good, to me that’s a big part of staying at a school away from home.
I also got a chance to work out with the guys (strength and conditioning only), it was a great workout and it gave me a chance to see where I am in comparison to the other running backs and players. I also met the head of the kinesiology dept who is also the strength and conditioning coach for the football team, my mom and him had alot in common as she is also a strength and conditioning trainer. She liked to see that the coach had the same philosophy as her when it comes to training, every position in football is different and the player has to be trained differently with functional exercises that will give more strength, speed and power on the field. It’s not just about bench presses….even though I like the BP….!
The overall impression of the school was great not to large, not to small. The players were a great group of guys. Food was good, really liked the coaches that I met and I felt comfortable there. I am flying to another school this weekend and hopefully will make my decision soon, until next time….

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
