NFC: Transit, Hawkeyes, Outlaws and Steelers win divisional semi-final games
The Montreal Transit continued their dominance this season in the Northern Football Conference (NFC).
This past weekend, the Transit shutout the Toronto Raiders 54-0 in the East Division semi-finals
In the first half, Transit quarterback Mathieu Rene connected with three different offensive threats for touchdowns –Pascal Tshliambo for a 10 yard major, Jourdain Alexis for a one yard score and Francois Bruno for a 26 yard tally.
At halftime, the Transit enjoyed a 20-0 lead.
In the second half, Rene and Jourdain connected again for a 47 yard touchdown. Subsequent to that, running back Andrew Hamilton and Patrick Bougie each had a one yard majors. Bruno would get his second score of the game, after connecting with Rene for a 23 yard score.
Hamilton added 116 rushing yards for the victors. Kicker William Dion was successful on a 28 yard field goal attempt and five conversion attempts.
The Transit advance to play the Durham Hawkeyes in the East Division Final on Saturday August 10th.
Meanwhile, the Hawkeyes got by the Ottawa Invaders 35-28 in the other East Division Semi-Final.
Hawkeyes receiver Ricky Clarke led the way for the victors as he scored three touchdowns, including one on an 84 yard kick return. He also had 109 receiving yards on six carries. Hawkeyes pivot Jeremy Mussche has 18 completions in 23 attempts and had four passing touchdowns. On defense Delroy George registered nine tackles.
For the Invaders, quarterback Jeff Hildreth had 17 completions in 23 attempts and one passing touchdown in the loss. Receiver Andrew Foss amassed 165 receiving yards on nine catches. Running back TJ Williams had 115 yards on 10 catches and one touchdown.
In the West Semi-Finals, the Sault Ste. Marie Steelers crushed the Sudbury Spartans 59-13 to advance to the division finals.
Steelers’ running back Josh Gauthier tallied two touchdowns and 122 rushing yards on 11 carries for the winners. For the Spartans, Josh Cuomo had two majors and 147 rushing yards on 24 carries in the loss.
The Steelers will face the Tri City Outlaws on Saturday August 10th in the West Final. The Outlaws advanced with a 29-14 victory over the Sarnia Imperials in the other West Semi-Final game.
Outlaws running back Kris Kusch scored a touchdown and had 88 rushing yards in the win.
