Waterloo adds trio of provincial recruits (VIDEO)

Three Ontario recruits newest to join OUA team’s 2015 class.

Waterloo Warriors have announced the addition of three Ontario recruits to their football program.

Tyler Boucher, Dealius Danso and Jean-Baptiste Kasenda are the newest Warriors.Β  All three recruits will join the team for the 2015 OUA season.

TYLER BOUCHER:

The 5’10, 180 pound athlete from Hamilton, Ontario recently completed his high school career with Cathedral Gaels of the Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic Athletic Association (HWCAA).Β  In 2014, Boucher has 12 passing and nine rushing touchdowns as well as four interceptions.

β€œWe’re very excited to add a player with Tyler’s athleticism and abilities to our football program,” commented Warriors Head Coach Chris Bertoia.Β  β€œHe’s a character guy who believes in team first, playing a variety of positions over the past few years that benefitted his team more than his own personal development on the field, Tyler is exactly what we’re looking for at Waterloo.”

β€œI’m excited to watch him compete at the slot position and we have high expectations for him moving forward.”

For his part, Boucher felt comfortable from the moment he step foot on his official visit at the OUA school.

β€œWaterloo made me feel very welcome at the visit and I could really see myself going to school but also playing there,” elaborated Boucher.Β  β€œI know I can come in and learn many things and improve as a player and try to help the team as much as I can.”

β€œThe recruitment process has been pretty good so far. It feels good knowing that you are being recognized for all the hard work you put in. It’s pretty exciting having people come and watch you play football from another school. You just have to remember to not let it affect how you play, and go out and have fun. It’s nice to feel wanted for your athletic ability.”

The Warriors are excited to have Boucher on their team due the playmaking abilities he possesses as previously demonstrated by the varied positions he has tried throughout his career.

β€œTyler is an exciting and experienced player making athlete with great speed, we like him at slot-back because of his hands and smooth route running,” assessed Warriors Recruiting Coordinator Nial Both. Β β€œTyler is going to be a factor not just by exceling on offense but also special teams as a returner.”

 

Dealius Danso

DEALIUS DANSO:

The 6’0, 230 pound linebacker from Brampton, Ontario completed a stint with Cardinal Ambrozic River Hawks of the Region of Peel Secondary School Athletic Association (ROPSSAA) as well as the Brampton Bulldogs of the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL).

β€œDealius is a great addition to our university and locker room,” expressed Bertoia.Β  β€œHe is a very good athlete who is physical.”

β€œHe’ll have an opportunity to compete early with our program with his ability to be an all-around player.Β Β  We’ve enjoyed the recruiting process with him; he comes from a very nice family and is welcomed addition to this class.”

Additionally, the Warriors are expecting Danso to make an impact on their defensive unit as well as on special teams in years to come.

β€œWe’re extremely pleased to be adding Dealius Danso to our 2015 class; his commitment adds some physicality, toughness and explosiveness to our defense,” added Both.Β  β€œDealius is a hard hitting linebacker that can also play on the line of scrimmage; he finishes all his tackles with intent and is a great special teams player.”

JEAN-BAPTISTE KASENDA:

The 6’2, 240 pound defensive end from Ottawa, Ontario has played for Franco Cite Falcons of the National Capital Secondary School Athletic Association (NCSSAA).

β€œJean-Baptiste is a welcomed addition to our defense; he combines speed, quickness and a physical presence,” assessed Both.Β  β€œJean-Baptiste is a very athletic pass rusher with great instincts; we are very excited to have a player of Jean-Baptiste’s character and skill sets joining our 2015 recruiting class.”

Ultimately, the Warriors have great expectations for Kasenda and are looking forward to welcoming him into the fold.
