World Championship preparations (ROSTER)

Women’s national team prepares for Worlds in Finland
Forty-five of the top Canadian women’s tackle football players head to Finland on June 23 for a five day training camp in preparation for the 2013 International Federation of American Football (IFAF) Women’s World Championship taking place June 28-July 6 in Vantaa, Finland.

The 2010 silver medalist from the inaugural Women’s World Championship, Canada opens the tournament on July 2nd against Spain followed by host Finland on July 4. After two games in three days, the medal round wraps up the tournament’s action on July 6.

Initially named to the reserve roster earlier this year, Erin Walton, Julie Paetsch and Kristen Chatterton will be joining the team in Finland after injuries during the regular season forcedJustine Barter, Alanna Doyle and Julie Perreault out of action.

The Women’s National Team returns 11 veterans from Canada’s inaugural 2010 squad including quarterback Saadia Ashraf (Montreal Blitz), receiver Alex Black (Capital Area Lady Gladiators) and defensive lineman Jessie Buydens (Saskatoon Valkyries).

Canada is led by head coach Jeff Yausie who serves the same role with the three-time defending Western Women’s Canadian Football League (WWCFL) champion Saskatoon Valkyries, offensive coordinator François Bougie, defensive coordinator Pierre Migner who serves as head coach of the 2012 Independent Women’s Football League champion Montreal Blitz and special teams coordinator Olivier Eddie.
