York welcomes #CFC100 CLASS 2014 RB (VIDEO)

TORONTO, Oct. 1 – York University Lions football head coach Warren Craney announced on Thursday the addition of standout #CFC100 CLASS 2014 running back Kayden Johnson to the program.

Johnson, a 6-foot-3, 195-pound tailback from Kerrobert, Sask., joins the Lions from the University of Saskatchewan Huskies, where he red-shirted for one season in 2014.

He has an impressive football resume that includes representing Canada at each of the last two U19 International Bowls in Arlington, Texas, as well as suiting up for Team Saskatchewan at the 2013 Football Canada Cup in Moncton, N.B. Prior to beginning his varsity career, he completed his high school playing days with the Lutheran Collegiate Bible Institute (LCBI) Bisons.

“Getting Kayden here was a big priority for our program and I am thrilled he is already here and with the team,” said Craney. “I had the opportunity to coach him with Team Canada over the last two years and he is a tremendous talent, and he is also a great character kid from a great family. I can’t wait to have him suit up for us next season.

Johnson arrived at York earlier this fall and is enrolled as a sociology student.

In addition to his football prowess, he is an accomplished track and field athlete and will be joining the Lions track and field team. He is a multi-events specialist and this past summer won the silver medal in the decathlon at the junior national championships and finished in fifth place at the Pan American junior championships in Edmonton.

Johnson is another piece for an offence that is full of talented young players and currently includes first-year athletes starting at quarterback, running back and multiple receiver positions. The unit has already shown significant improvement over last season and is averaging an additional 80 yards per game.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
