2022 NFL Draft: CFC100 Class of 2019 number one ranked WR John Metchie III selected 44th overall

The big day has finally arrived for CFC100 Class of 2019 WR John Metchie out of Alabama, who was selected 44th overall in the 2nd round by the Houston Texans at the 2022 NFL Draft.

CFC40 DRAFT CLASS RANKINGS

The reigning Canadian king of the South, it’s been a long time since we started tracking the Brampton, ON native when he first crossed the border to play at St. James School in Maryland as a freshman. He’d end his high school career at Peddie School in New Jersey, but before the transfer he already became one of the most prolific CFC100 prospects in history earning offers from over 20+ DI schools including Notre Dame, Texas, Penn State and Michigan. The CFC100 Class of 2019 top ranked prospect eventually made the easy decision when Alabama came calling, and began to entertain millions of fans every Saturday with his talent at Bryant-Denny Stadium.

Metchie III was a key member of the Crimson Tide’s 2020 National Title run, and would’ve been an impact player in their title defense before suffering a torn ACL in the SEC Championship last year. Unfortunately the timing of his injury also effected his draft stock, but scouts couldn’t ignore how dominant he was prior to his injury catching 96 passes for 1142 yards and 8 touchdowns. In total he finished his career at Alabama catching 155 passes for 2081 yards and 14 touchdowns, making him a surefire second day draft pick in the eyes of the Texans.

Metchie III will be looking to become the next prolific Canadian receiver in the NFL alongside Pittsburgh Steelers CFC100 WR Chase Claypool, and Los Angeles Chargers CFC100 WR Joshua Palmer.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
