2015 Class highlighted by 29 recruits from five provinces, United States and Bahamas, including CFC100 pivot.
The Acadia Axemen has officially announced their 2015 class.
This yearβs class of 29 recruits spans over five provinces, the United States and Bahamas.Β The 2015 class composition is as follows:
NOVA SCOTIA: Β 8
NEW BRUNSWICK: 3
ONTARIO: 8
ALBERTA: 4
BRITISH COLUMBIA: 3
UNITED STATES: 1
BAHAMAS: 2
Axemen Head Coach Jeff Cummins said the football program was successful in addressing some gaps at several key positions. On offence, the team added some explosive playmakers that will make significant contributions in future years. More significantly, the Axemen have added depth and size on the offensive line and expect those newest additions to make an immediate impact.
βIn this 2015 recruiting class, we believe we have filled the needs on the offensive line with a couple of big players who can step in right away in 6β6 Shelton Williams from Holland College and 6β7 Keiler Cherry from CJFL champions Saskatoon Hilltops,β commented Cummins.Β βAt the receiver spots, we have brought in some real speed and skill highlighted by Jaylen McRae and Eugene McMinns both clocked in the 4.4βs.β
βAdd our three new quarterbacks Nick Bynkoski, CFC 100 Hunter Guenard and Simon Richardson and the offensive side of the ball looks to have filled in nicely.β
As the Axemenβs defence, the newest additions will complement returning players on the unit.
βOn the DARKSIDE, the big boys upfront 6β6 Tommy Grant, 6β5 Malcolm Hyde and 6β3 Eric Fraser will push to get on the field right away,β assessed Cummins. βAt the linebacker position, our depth will be secured with young studs Mitch Deware and Tyler Hill.β
βBack deep Rory Kelly and Jamarcus Williams lead a strong class of defensive backs who will take their cues from a group returning four to five starters from last season.β
The central point of the Axemenβs recruiting class is CFC 100 pivot Hunter Guenard. The 6β1, 215 pound pivot from Calgary, AlbertaΒ completed his career with Centennial Coyotes of the Calgary Senior High School Secondary School Athletic Association (CSHSAA). This past season, the quarterback completed 122 passes in 212 attempts for 2421 passing yards, 29 touchdowns (24 passing, five rushing) and only threw two interceptions.
In addition to the Coyotes, Guenard has previously suited up for the Calgary Colts of the Calgary Area Midget Football Association (CAMFA).
In January, the Calgary pivot made his third consecutive appearance on theΒ CFC 100.
βA fabulous quarterback, Hunter Guenard, can make all the throws and comes from a great football program Centennial High School coached by former Axemen Garth Melrose,β expressed Cummins of Guenardβs addition.Β βWe are very excited to see what Hunter can do at the university level as he is true competitor.β
βI believe he will make a distinct mark in the storied Axemen Quarterback Club.β
