Amanda Ruller continues Canadian trend of All-Fantasy selections

Following in the footsteps of BC-native Stevi Schnoor, Regina’s Amanda Ruller becomes the second Canadian player to gain All-Fantasy Team honors in the Legends Football League. While Schnoor, an elite running back for the Seattle Mist, gained her well-deserved spot as a member of the Western Conference squad, Ruller had the honor bestowed upon her with the opposing Eastern Conference.

Coincidentally, Ruller’s first season of Legends Football play consisted of a unique connection with Schnoor. Donning the silver and black colors of one of Seattle’s biggest rivals, the Los Angeles Temptation, Ruller and Schnoor opposed each other in the 2015 Western Conference championship game.

Having first established herself in the world of sport as a track and field sensation with the University of Regina, Ruller’s gridiron milestone of All-Fantasy recognition was attributed to her outstanding efforts on special teams play.

Heading into the 2016 campaign, the speedy Ruller made the transition into her second season of pro football as a member of the Atlanta Steam. Instantly, Ruller proved to be an ideal acquisition for the Eastern Conference club. Taking part in off-season fundraisers, while bonding with her new teammates, Ruller was already shaping into a good fit.

Sporting her splendid smile, it helped to set a positive tone for a Steam club that qualified for the 2016 Eastern Conference championship game, signifying her second straight season with a playoff appearance. Proving to be a reliable presence on special teams, Ruller’s proficiency would extend to a display of gridiron versatility.

Seeing spot duty on offense, where Ruller would rank fourth on the Steam in rushing, trailing Brittany Demery, Jessie Locklear and Adrian Purnell, she also provided superstar signal caller Dakota Hughes with another target in the passing game. Averaging 6.8 yards per carry, she ranked fourth among her “Steammates”, while finishing seventh in receiving, respectively.

Assembling a series of relentless efforts for the Steam, she quickly gained the notice of the Steam faithful, transforming her into a fan favourite. Also reputed for her devotion to fitness, such a commitment was evident on game time, consistently providing fearless play on special teams.

In making the transition to Atlanta, Ruller’s roots were evident in the stands. With the presence of her mother, arguably her biggest supporter in attendance, it marked the newest chapter in her gridiron odyssey even more special. A photo on social media saw a jubilant Ruller with her mom, decked out in a Saskatchewan Roughriders jersey, the first team that exposed her to the gridiron game. Undoubtedly, Ruller’s experience with the Steam will serve as the first football exposure for so many young aspiring players, poised to transform her into a role model, testament to her selection as one of the elites in her game.
