Aspiring gridiron youth

Ottawa – Junior Ravens Football Camp has completed its sixth weekend of camp, continuing to provide young, aspiring football players with the opportunity to play multiple positions while building their technical and tactical skill-sets.

Throughout camp, which is held every weekend on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, the dedicated coaches have continuously developed the participants – aged 8 to 14 years old and includes female players – into prepared, safe, and skilled football players. Regardless of age, experience or technical competency Junior Ravens Football Camp has impacted the confidence and capabilities of all participants.

This past weekend (May 24th weekend), players were exposed to more safe-tackling techniques to ensure they are prepared to play the game of football safely and protect themselves from injury. To conclude the weekend, coaches organized a mini-games competition on Sunday. The mini-games tested the skill development of all the young players, while providing a fun and enjoyable experience.

Carleton University’s Receiver’s Coach and Junior Ravens Football Coordinator, Josh Sacobie, emphasized the program’s focus on introducing fundamentals to the over 135 participants, of which over 80% are experiencing football for the first time.

“Our staff is experienced, energetic, and dedicated to working with young football players.” Sacobie said Sunday. “Each week we introduce something new to the kids – whether it’s a different position, a new drill on how to tackle and block safely, a skills challenge or a mini-game – we take great pride in offering the complete experience of football.”

Though only a first-year program, Junior Ravens Football has provided a measurable and noticeable difference in the safe-tackling techniques used by the young participants. Coach Sacobie takes great pride in the response Junior Ravens Football has received from parents, and looks forward to the future of youth football in the community.

“Our goal is to impact the lives of young athletes. I am very happy with the response we have received in the first year.”
