OVFL: Wildcats back in playoff picture

The Metro Toronto Wildcats are back in playoff contention as the team defeated the Kingston Grenadiers 27-21.

The win brings the Wildcats to .500 and fifth place in the Wettges conference in the OVFL.

The Grenadiers, who were favored to win this game, came across a determined Wildcats team.  As a result of the Wildcats win, the Grenadiers, who once sat in second place were bumped back into eighth place.

The Wildcats have now won two consecutive games and are making a strong push for a playoff spot.

The defense was led by Kadeem Thomas. He caught two interceptions for fifty yards which helped get the ball deep in Grenadier territory. Other standouts included Jordan Russell and Kwaku Agyeman who both caught interceptions of their own.

The defense did not allow the Grenadiers any room.  However, the offense was able to secure the victory with excellent play by quarterback Brett Stei,n who threw for 216 passing yards and one touchdown. Receiver Trivel Pinto returned a punt for a 60 yard touchdown and had one receiving touchdown.

Kicker Daniel Schneider put up several points via field goals and PAT’s which secured the Wildcats victory.

The Wildcats will the Cumberland Panthers at home team next Saturday at Birchmount Stadium. It will be another conference match-up for the Wildcats as the Panthers sit in 9th place in the Wettges Conference. The Wildcats need to get another win in order to secure a playoff spot, while the 0-6 Panthers will be hoping to get their first win of the season.

The game will take place at 5:00PM.
