OVFL: Wildcats batter Bucs

The Metro Toronto Wildcats have finally ended their losing streak after defeating the Newmarket Bucs, 36-0. The heat did nothing to deter the Wildcats from securing their first win since week two.

The shutout was a nice change of pace after losing a very disappointing game the previous week against Markham in overtime. With the win, the Wildcats move into 11th place, which still gives them a chance to make the playoffs.

Once again, Kadeem Thomas and James William led the defensive unit  in tackles as they were able to stop the Bucs on every possession. Trevelle Wisdom continued to lead the defense after another stellar week. Recently, Wisdom was named to Team Ontario’s under- 18 roster which will compete at the 2013 Football Canada Cup next month in Moncton, New Brunswick.

The offense was led on the ground by running back Marvin Gaynor and in the air by Malcolm Carter. Carter tallied two touchdown and racked up 82 receiving yards. In only his second week back, Carter has excelled as one of the team’s best receivers. Meanwhile, quarterback Brett Stein continued to be one of the Wildcats’ best players as he threw for 122 total yards and three touchdowns.

This upcoming weekend, the Wildcats will enjoy a bye week, but will be back in action the following week against the Kingston Grenadiers. The Grenadiers currently sit in second place in the OVFL, so it will not be an easy task for the Wildcats.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
