BC Community games of the week: Playoff edition

VMFL

Bantam 9-man:
North Delta Longhorns (#3) vs Richmond Raiders (#1)

In the Bantam 9-man division, the fans have come to expect the unexpected. Each week this division continues to provide great entertainment with wild plays and fantastic finishes and no one seems to know who is going to win.

Last Sunday, the Longhorns added fuel to the fire by knocking off the number two team, Coquitlam Chargers, in a 36-28 shootout. Across town, the Raiders just edged out the Vancouver Trojans to capture their spot in the Provincial Championship game this Sunday.

While Richmond has two of the three wins this season against the Longhorns, North Delta took the last game with a 24-12 victory at home. Both teams have shown explosive offenses with great aerial attacks and the turf field at Minoru should just add further punch to the game

For these two teams, this game on Sunday represents both the VMFL Championship as well as the BC Provincial Championship. Someone will be wearing two crowns at the end of the night.

Game time is Sunday, November 18 at 2 pm at Minoru Stadium in Richmond.

Junior Bantam:
Coquitlam Wildcats (#2) vs Coquitlam Vikings (#1)

For the Wildcats, a single point means a lot.

In the last week of the season, they needed just one point to defeat the South Delta Rams but instead settled for a tie giving them second place in the Junior Bantam final standings.

Then this past Monday, that single point again made all the difference in the world as the Wildcats hosted the Rams and managed to defeat South Delta by a single point – 17-16.

With that win, we set up an all-Coquitlam VMFL Final Championship game with the Vikings as the host team after their perfect 8-0 season.

So just how good are the Vikings? Six of their wins came by shutouts over their opponents. In fact only one team, the South Delta Rams, managed to score more than one major against this stingy defense. With the Raiders having a tough defense themselves, this game could come down to something of a hockey score by the end of the night.

The winner of this game will be crowned VMFL Champion and will host the BC Provincial Semi-Finals against the Valley Community Football League champion next weekend.

Game time is Saturday, November 17 at 7:30 pm at Percy Perry Stadium in Coquitlam.

VCFL

The VCFL league championship event will take place this Saturday, November 17 at McLeod Athletic Park in Langley with four games on tap and all the action getting underway bright and early at 9:30 am.

Atom:
North Langley (#2) vs Abbotsford (#1)

Abbotsford has yet to lose a game this season through the regular season and playoffs and included in their run is a pair of victories over North Langley by scores of 20-13 and 18-6, respectively.

Game time is 9:30 am.

Pee Wee:
Meadow Ridge Gold (#2) vs Abbotsford (#1)

Meadow Ridge Gold finished the regular season with an impressive 8-2 record but those two losses both came at the hands of undefeated Abbotsford (10-0).

Meadow Ridge Gold will be hoping that third time’s a charm after falling by scores of 8-0 and 20-6, respectively, in games earlier this season against Abbotsford.

The winner will move on to play a provincial semi-final game next week against the SIFC champion.

Game time is 12 pm

Junior Bantam:
North Langley (#3) vs Abbotsford Black (#1)

North Langley enters Saturday’s championship game as the underdog against undefeated Abbotsford Black but perhaps not as much as most people would suggest.

The teams met once during the regular season with Abbotsford Black squeaking out with a 34-31 victory.

The winner will move on to play a provincial semi-final game against a VMFL team next week.

Game time is 2 pm.

Bantam:
Abbotsford (#2) vs Chilliwack (#1)

Chilliwack looks to cap off their perfect season with a win over Abbotsford in the league title game.

Chilliwack has already defeated Abbotsford twice this season, including pounding them by a 42-6 score in their most recent clash back on October 12. That big loss might be a source of motivation for Abbotsford who were otherwise perfect this season except in their two losses to Chilliwack.

The winner will advance directly to the provincial championship game on December 2 in Langley.

Game time is 4 pm.

SIFC

All SIFC championship games listed below will take place on Sunday, November 18 at the CNC Turf Field in Kelowna.

Pee Wee:
Kelowna-Mission Lions (#2) vs Vernon Yellow Jackets (#1)

The Yellow Jackets will look to complete their perfect season with a league title when they face off against the Kelowna-Mission Lions with the SIFC Pee Wee league championship on the line.

The Lions, however, are the defending champions and won’t be looking to hand over the crown without a fight.

The Yellow Jackets and Lions met twice in regular season action with Vernon earning victories of 10-6 and 21-8, respectively.

The winner will move on to the provincial semi-finals next week against a team from the VCFL.

Game time is 12 pm.

Junior Bantam:
West Kelowna Sundevils (#2) vs Kelowna-Mission Lions (#1)

The Lions may be the defending SIFC league champions and provincial champion but the Sundevils are looking to end their run this Sunday and they know they have the tools to do so.

Both teams technically finished 9-1 during the regular season with their respective losses coming against one another. However, the Sundevils loss came via forfeit whereas in their last actual head-to-head clash, the Sundevils were 28-8 victors.

This contest should be a barn-burner with the winner moving on to the provincial semi-finals to face a team from Vancouver Island.

Game time is 2 pm.
