The BCCFA held their 46th annual 12-man provincial championships this pastĀ SundayĀ and crowned four new champions! Here’s a brief look back at the four games.
Pee Wee:
North Delta Longhorns 33 def. Mission 9ers 0
In a battle of undefeated teams, the North Delta Longhorns proved they were without a doubt the top team in all of Pee Wee football scoring a convincing 33-0 win over Mission.
En route to winning the championship, the Longhorns out-scored their opponents 381-29 during regular season play and continued that domination throughout their post-season play winning the VMFL title before eventually capturing the provincial crown as well.
Junior Bantam:
South Delta Rams 47 def. Abbotsford Falcons 8
The South Delta Rams fell behind early in their championship contest but that was about the only low point of theirĀ Sunday.
After giving up the opening touchdown to trail 8-0, the Rams scored 47 unanswered points en route to a convincing 47-8 win to capture the provincial title.
The Rams concluded their season without suffering a single loss and were a dominant scoring machine and defensive juggernaut. They out-scored their opponents 319-26 during regular season play.
Bantam:
Langley Mustangs 24 def. North Delta Longhorns 7
The Langley Mustangs were the lone āhomeā teamĀ on SundayĀ at McLeod Stadium and they made sure to send their home fans happy.
The Mustangs capped off a perfect season with a 24-7 win over the second-best Bantam team in the VMFL to capture both the VMFL championship as well as the provincial title.
The Mustangs concluded their regular season with a 10-0 record and swept their way through the playoff with a championship. They out-scored their opponents 376-42 during regular season play.
Midget:
Nanaimo Redmen 17 def. North Surrey Bears 11
The Redmen had just 20 players on their roster for Sunday’s championship showdown but what they lacked in bodies they made up for in heart.
Nanaimo rebounded from an 8-3 half-time deficit to soar past the Bears 17-11 to capture the Midget provincial title.
The Redmen trailed 11-3 in the fourth quarter before they engineered their comeback starting with QB Austin Lyle connected with Marcus Severe for a 71-yard touchdown reception. Jake Borserio would convert the two-point attempt to square the affair.
Borserio would then score on a 10-yard run with justĀ 2:21Ā left in the contest to give the Redmen a lead they would not relinquish.
The Redmen finished the regular season with a 7-2-1 record but upset the Cowichan Bulldogs in the semi-final to earn their way to the championship game.
