OFC JV: Β Bears shutout Storm in week six OFC action.
In week six OFC action, the Guelph Bears welcomed the Niagara Storm on their home turf at the University of Guelph Stadium.
The Bears, who are fighting for a playoff spot, was looking for a big win this weekend at the University of Guelph Stadium. The Niagara team was coming in with a 1-3 record looking to climb one game closer to .500.
During the Bears warm ups, the team looked poised and ready to play football. The team was running drills while staying calm, cool and collective. Bears Head Coach Chas Douglas was excited for this game and knew if his team played well, they could walk away with the win.
βOur team has practiced hard this week and they are really excited for this game,” said Douglas.
The Bears had a strong performance in the first quarter. The team quickly capitalized on opportunities as the Storm couldnβt keep up with the Bears fast paced offense.
Walker Breen was back as the starting quarterback for the Bears. Coming back from a hand injury, Breen was hoping to have a big game. In the game, Walker threw for over 300 yards as the Bears shutout the Storm this past weekend 34 – 0.
βWe excelled this week because our team didnβt take a quarter to get warmed up,” said Douglas.
Special teams played a pivotal role in the Bears win. The Bears return game was solid this week as the unit continually gave their offense a short field to play with and also tallied points on the board. Nick Mckellar had a kickoff return of 80 yards to put up 6 points for the Bears.
The Bears defense kept the Storm off the board throughout the entire the game as the unit stopped the opposition’s run game and continually knocked down balls.
βThe team played a full 60 minutes. I am really proud of the boys this weekend,β said Douglas.
This upcoming week, Douglas plans on preparing the team Β for their upcoming game against the Hamilton Hurricanes. Ultimately, Douglas wants to ensure that players are able to finish and execute drives.
Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
