Bisons and flag football join forces for charity

Bisons Football and the Brantford Youth Flag Football Association announced today that they will be joining forces to assist a local charity; Brant Food For Thought.

The organizations will be holding two exhibition games against each other on Saturday, August 17th at Bisons Alumni field. The first game for players age 11 and 12 will take place at 10:15A.M. while the second game for players age 15 to 17 will kick off at noon. The games will use flag football rules with all proceeds from the gate donated to the Food For Thought charity.

These games, called the Brant Food For Thought Bowls, are planned to become an annual event. Players, coaches, volunteers, partners, sponsors and advertisers from the respective organizations will all be invited to attend in apprectiation of the support Bisons Football and the Brantford Youth Flag Football Association has received over the year. The general public is also invited to witness these unique exhibition games and show support for the Brant Food For Thought charity.

Former CFL player, Jykine Bradley and long time Bisons coach Justin VanEvery will be coaching the Bisons teams, while Dan Davis and Jason Virtue will be coaching the flag teams.

Admission will be free but cash donations will be requested at the gate to ensure as much money as possible is raised for the charity.

Registration for the fall seasons of Brantford Youth Flag Football and Bisons Football will also be avaialble for young athetes who wish to play either flag or tackle football.

β€œI am pleased that we have organized a unique event in our community that should become an annual event. It will be a fun event for the players but the real winner will be Brant Food For Thought which is a tremendous charity that serves a great need in our community.” commented Dan Davis, president of the Brantford Youth Flag Football Association.

β€œThe Bisons are proud to be associated with this charitable event and participate with our friends from flag football. Many of the players in our program start out with flag football before moving over to our tackle brand of football so it is important that we work together in events like this. The kids in both our programs will get to display their skills in front of many fans and help a charity in the process. This is a win-win for all concerned.” added Brad Ward, president of Bisons Football.

β€œI want to thank these two community minded organizations for selecting our charity as the benefactor for the exhibition games. There is a tremedous need for the services Brant Food For Thought provide in our schools and the donation from this event will be much appreciated.” stated Sherron Birkett, Vice-Chair of Brant Food For Thought.
